AUDITIONS

Individual auditions will consist of:

  • Two parts: Solo + Excerpts
    • Please prepare a Solo as indicated below, as well as BOTH excerpts for your instrument. One or both may be called after completion of prepared Solo piece.
    • Excerpts should be prepared as close to performance tempo as possible.
    • In the event you are unable to make the January 17 date, please email the office at office@summervilleorchestera.com to schedule an alternate date/time.
  • 7-minute slot per person: please make sure to contact the office at office@summervilleorchestra.com to sign up; signups limited to number of auditions until 2-hour window is filled.
  • Please arrive at St. Paul’s Church main sanctuary (316 W. Carolina Avenue, Summerville) with enough time to warm-up so that at your audition time you are ready to walk in the room and begin your time.
  • Stands will be provided; Please wear comfortable clothing (no need to dress-up) – just be comfortable in whatever you are playing
 

SOLO

All String + Woodwind Instruments: Please prepare either:

  1. Exposition of the 1st movement of any Baroque/Classical concerto for your instrument (or an arrangement for your instrument if no such concerto exists) OR
  2. A solo of your choice that demonstrates your playing ability (no longer than 2-3 minutes).

All Brass + Auxiliary (piccolo, Eb clarinet, English horn, etc.): Please prepare either:

  1. Exposition of the 1st movement of any concerto for your instrument OR
  2. A solo of your choice that demonstrates your playing ability (no longer than 2-3 minutes).

Percussion/Piano/Harp: Please prepare:

  1. A solo of your choice that demonstrates your playing ability (no longer than 2-3 minutes).
