Friday, September 8 – “IN REMEMBRANCE” concert presented by the Summerville Orchestra

On Friday, September 8, 2017, 7:30 PM, the Summerville Orchestra will present their annual 9/11 Memorial Concert at the Summerville Baptist Church. Sponsored by the State Accommodations Fund, the concert once again is FREE to the public and no tickets are required.

Led by the orchestra’s Music Director, Wojciech Milewski, the annual concert is truly a fitting memorial. While some of the music serves as a solemn remembrance to the fallen on 9/11/2001, it is also a celebration of our country’s continued spirit and resolve. This hour-long concert promises to touch our hearts and soar our souls as we listen to favorites such as Amazing Grace, Sousa marches, Gould’s American Salute and the beloved Armed Forces Salute.

This year’s concert will open with something special – a short remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001 – written by a Summerville resident, retired Army Colonel, Ken Smith, and presented by representatives from Summerville’s Fire & Rescue teams, Police force, and area active Military personnel. Again – no speeches or long discourse – just an opportunity to pay tribute.

Friday, September 8, in Summerville: If you’ve made this an annual tradition, you know to come early to secure a seat. Held at Summerville Baptist Church, 417 Central Avenue, doors will open at 6:30 PM for the 7:30 PM concert. Again – this event is free to the public, open seating.

The Freedom Reigns Festival 9/11 Concert, scheduled for Saturday, September 9, at Lightsey Chapel Auditorium, Charleston Southern University has been cancelled.
